Treasurer’s Report - John Kostoff
John Kostoff reported that due to an alteration in the checking account, we were no longer being charged for each transaction. Discussion followed regarding dropping AT&T (the current long-distance carrier) and purchasing a 500-minute phone form SAMS Club. The board voted to accept this change.
It was also agreed upon to have the SBC bill automatically paid from the checking account.
John Kostoff reported that he had acquired a Fidelity Bond through Auto Owners for $25,000.

President’s Report – Jim McCaffrey
Review of the first Encore using the services of Kim Hopkins – everyone agreed that the newsletter was professionally prepared.
The Alumni Pep Bands that performed during the holidays were a success. John Madden indicated he had received good feedback from fans and the administration and it appeared that a winter tradition was being developed.
On-Going Commission Project – discussed commissioning a march for the Alumni Band. Gerry Spry will start a committee for this purpose. John Whitwell spoke regarding the need to attend to the philosophy, the mission, of the Alumni Band. He indicated a desire to see us doing more; doing something grand. He said that most Big Ten schools have at least $100,000.000 in accounts and 10 scholarships. Kim indicated that we were respected by the Development Office. John Madden also spoke to the idea of having a vision. John Whitwell, John Madden and Joe Levine will be members of the Vision Committee.
Spring Concert April 13, 2003 – it was determined that registration would begin at 8am; rehearsal from 9 – 12 in the University Auditorium; and the concert at 3pm with the Alumni Band performing the first half and the Wind Symphony after intermission. John Whitwell and John Madden will be conducting.
Catron Music Commission - $1,040.00 in donations has been received with hopes of more to arrive. We will pay $2,500.00 as earlier determined.
Executive Secretary’s Report – Beryl Falcone
Jane Church’s mother died recently. It was determined that Lynn Brown would purchase and send a sympathy card from the Alumni Band Executive Board.

Old Business
Tunnel Passes – John Madden indicated that, in the past, individuals have slipped in so tunnel passes were issued. It was determined that we will continue with tunnel passes.
New Business
The alumni band golf outing website is now up and running. The address is:
Joe Levine brought up the idea of having events the Friday before Alumni Band Day in the Fall: golf outing 9 – 2:30, Campus events during the day, watching the marching band rehearsal 4 – 5:30, cocktails and old marching band movies 6 – 7 and then dinner and socializing starting at 7. We determined this was a good idea and will be using the Williamston Roadhouse for the event.
Director’s Report – John Madden
Building update – architects will be making a second visit in the near future.
The bands are doing well. The Wind Symphony will be playing off-campus several times this coming semester. There are three full concert bands filled with music majors.
The next board meeting is scheduled for March 16, 2003 at 2:00 pm at Buddies in Okemos.
