Alumni Band Executive Board Meeting
Minutes
July 24, 2005

 

REMINDER:  The next Board meeting will be October 2, 2005.

Meeting was called to order at 2:05pm by President Gerry Spry.

Present: Joe Levine, Gerry Spry, Beryl Falcone, John Kostoff, Wes Broadnax, Gary Baron, Lynn Brown  (Did not have a quorum.)

Secretary's Report - Lynn Brown

Minutes from the May 22, 2005 meeting were passed out, discussed and corrected.  They will be voted on at the next meeting.  Correction:  Midwest Conference Participation – "the board approved assisting in the underwriting of the MSU School of Music Reception in Chicago.”

Treasurer’s Report - John Kostoff

For the period May 19, 2005 – July 24, 2005:

Total Expenses = $4,734.55
Total Deposits = $0.00
Ending Balance (checking account) = $2,771.40
            (Commission Portion)              $1,013.00        

            (Regular Portion)                        $1,758.40


Other funds:
Certificate of Deposit (As of 07/28/05) = $5,115.03

Total Cash on Hand = $7,886.43

Anticipated expenditures:

Bloomquist Scholarship (Yearly) = $500.00
Commission Project = $2,500.00

Treasurer’s report was passed out and discussed.  Will be voted on at the next meeting,.

Vice President’s Report – Terry Person

            No report.

 President’s Report – Gerry Spry

                        No report.

 

 Executive Secretary’s Report – Beryl Falcone

 

1.      After each Fall event, a letter is sent to those who have paid dues but did not participate.  Gerry will submit a bill to the treasurer for this expense.  There was discussion regarding the use of the Sesquicentennial Logo on the Fall letter.

2.      Scholarships – a display poster will be made that lists all the scholarships as well as information for those interested in donating to a scholarship fund.  It will be displayed September 10, 2005.

3.      The Spring Concert will be April 23, 2006 at 3pm in the University Auditorium with the MSU Symphony Band.

 

Past President’s Report – Jim McCaffrey

No report.

 

 Band Director’s Report

1.      Hats will not be made for the Fall Reunion.

2.      The time of the September 10, 2005 game has been changed to 3:30pm.  What follows is a possible schedule that wll be confirmed by John Madden:

8am – registration

9am – rehearsal

10:15 – outside drill

11:30 – lunch

1:45 – return to Adams Field

2:15 – march to stadium

Participants will be e-mailed regarding the change and the websitwe will be updated.

3.  Wes Broadnax provided a brief report of the directors’ summer activities.

 

Band Liaison Report – Joe Levine

Joe met with John Whitwell and Jim Forger regarding starting an adjunct fund-raising group.  This is an ongoing project.

Old Business

Fall Reunion Report – Joe Levine

Dinner will be at the Hannah Community Center.  50 participants are anticipated.

           

RJ Bullock Project - Gary Baron

No response from RJ Bullock after e-mailing and calling.  Gary will continue attempting to contact him..

 

MSU Alumni Band Trip Report – Dale Bartlett (reported by Lynn Brown)

Lauralee Campbell is still working toward establishing a cost for the Western Canadian trip to take place in June 2007.  She had hoped to have this all completed by now but is experiencing some difficulty finding a reasonable price.  This is complicated by the airlines being reticent to estimate costs due to the oil situation.  Participants should be getting information soon.

Updated info:  Due to the change in starting time for the Hawaii game scheduled for September 10, 2005, the Alumni Tour Band gathering will be a box-luncheon meeting in the Band Room of the Music Building starting at 11:30am.  Dale Bartlett will be mailing details regarding the luncheon to interested tour participants.  At the luncheon, Lauralee Campbell will be present to provide updates of the plans for the 2007 Western Canadian trip.  These updates will be mailed to tour participants we well as those unable to attend.

MSU Alumni Band Golf Outing Report – Dale Bartlett (reported by Lynn Brown)

This year’s golf outing will be held on Friday, September 9.  Tee time:  9am.  The cost is $46.  17 participants have signed up already and we expect 40-50.  Please contact Dale Bartlett (bartle17@msu.edu or 517-332.4495) if you need a registration form.

 

Status of putting Sesquicentennial logo on membership cards

            The logo is on the new membership cards.

 

Contacting directors for Friday’s get-together and Saturday’s activities

Joe Levine will send letters inviting directors to attend the Friday dinner.  Gerry Spry will contact directors regarding Saturday.

Developing criteria for Alumni Recognition

Discussed recognizing an alumnus in each issue of the Encore.
