The Fall Reunion will be held at the third football game of the season - MSU vs California - September 14, 2002. The Golf Outing will be the day before - Friday, September 13, 2002. The themes for the halftime show will be A Tribute to Dave Catron & Recognizing the Inclusion of Women in the Marching Band.
John shared information about possible costs incurred due to last Fall's last minute change of the Fall Reunion date and the problems associated with people ordering tickets for the original game but not able to attend the rescheduled game.
In the future all game tickets for family of Alumni Band members will be handled directly by the Athletic Ticket Office.
Director's Report - Wes Broadnax
"Curtis Olson Day" will be held on the Friday/Saturday of the Spring Reunion weekend. This event will honor Curtis Olson, retiring trombonist on the music faculty. A composition commissioned for Curtis Olson - to be written by Eric Ewazen - will be premiered at the Alumni Band Spring Reunion and feature a trombone choir of current and former students of Curtis Olson.
Director's Report - John Whitwell
John reported on the two commissions in honor of Dave Catron that are in-process and to be performed by the Symphony Band during the Spring Reunion. "To Music" is being written by Robert Jager and "Ode and Epinicion" is being written by James Curnow. The Alumni Band has been asked to actively encourage its members to contribute towards both of these commissions. Checks should be made out to "Michigan State University" (not the "Alumni Band") and they will be processed by the School of Music to provide full tax benefits to the contributor.
Refreshments for the Spring Reunion have been ordered. Registration will be set up at 8:00 am and begin at 8:30 am.
