Minutes from the January 12, 2003 meeting were approved as posted on the internet.

Treasurer’s Report - John Kostoff

For the period January 12, 2003 – March 16, 2003:


Total Expenses = $7,066.93
Total Deposits = $420.00
Ending Balance (checking account) = $1,922.62

Other funds:
Certificate of Deposit = $6,609.31

Total Cash on Hand = $8,531.93

Anticipated expenditures:

Bloomquist Scholarship (Yearly) = $500.00
R J Bullock Digitizing Project = $2,000.00

Discussed having a second board member able to sign checks. John will add Jim McCaffrey’s name to the signature card.

Discussed sending the "Encore" via internet with hard copy availability.

Vice President’s Report – Gerry Spry

Gerry provided a printout of the responses as well as the internet address for the Organizational Goals-Fund Raising Agenda discussion group. The address is: http://www.quicktopic.com/19/H/5EFdqhLUFDRJ" This address will be printed in the June 2003 "Encore" as well as presented at the April concert so the membership will be able to provide input

President’s Report – Jim McCaffrey

"Encore" - there needs to be an issue number on the newsletters. The deadline for the June 2003 newsletter is May 4 (the date of the next board meeting).

Jim will request that John Whitwell write an article for the June 2003 "Encore" regarding the idea of having money available for commissions.

Spring Concert – still needs additional players to create balance. However, if necessary, students will be used to complete the band. John Madden indicated that the program is still taking shape. And, it was decided that no prizes will be given out at the Spring concert.

Executive Secretary’s Report – Beryl Falcone

Alumni will be participating as a marching band in the MSU Homecoming Parade on October 4, 2003. Registration for this event will be added to the regular Fall Reunion form. Beryl will contact Gordon Spink to handle this event.

Alumni Band European Trip Update – Dale Bartlett

The band is now full and there is a waiting list

Past President’s Report – Bill Monroe

No report.

Old Business

Duty list of at-large members is not yet complete.

Information regarding the Friday evening, September 5, 2003, events will be published in the June 2003 newsletter.

Regarding a memo from Jason Dawdy – Paul (UGLI) is not doing online sales of MSU Alumni Band products but he is a licensed vendor. Jim McCaffrey will contact Jason to let him know we will be reconsidering selling online and will be contacting him later. There was discussion regarding selling from our site.

New Business

The Fall Reunion on September 6, 2003 will be MSU’s 1000th football game – therefore, this will be the theme of the event.

The Board voted to increase the dues to $20 and the registration fee for events to $10.

Henry Nelson suggested having Alumni Band members conduct at the spring concerts as "Spring Guest Conductors." Jim McCaffrey and John Madden will get together with John Whitwell to decide who will be on the list and ask one person each year.

Director’s Report – John Madden

Building Update – re the Athletic Bands, Jim Forger and Space Management people took a tour of all the facilities. Demonstration Hall is becoming a space for renovation.

The next board meeting is scheduled for May 4, 2003 at 2:00 pm at Buddies in Okemos.
