The Purpose/Mission of the MSU Alumni Band Association is:

 2. To provide ongoing support of the MSU Band program.  (Examples of this could include such activities as regularly awarding the Bloomquist Graduate Conducting Scholarship, the offering of other scholarships for MSU Band members, commissioning of new works for band, promoting of attendance at MSU band concerts, etc.)

 3. To promote opportunities for collegial/social activities among band alumni.  (Examples of this could include such activities as the golf outing, the Fall Friday Evening Get-Together, assisting in hosting a Reception at the Chicago Midwest Band Conference, etc.)

Jack Nelson – Holiday Band Report

There were over 100 people at one of the events.  Jack will be gathering music so there will be a part for each person.  There was an article about the Holiday Alumni Bands in the MSU Alumni Magazine.

Joe Levine – Fall Reunion Report

After discussion, the Board agreed to underwrite the cost of the Fall Friday Evening Get-Together so that each adult attending the Get-Together will only have to pay $25 for the evening.  It is estimated that the underwriting of the event will cost the Association between $650 and $733.

Joe Levine – Band Director’s Liaison Report

Joe reported on two meetings in which he has participated.  One with Gordon and Kristen Peterson (College of Arts & Letters Development Officer) and the other with Gerry, Bill and John Whitwell.  The focus of these meetings was to discuss the idea of a separately organized group that could focus on a large scale fund raising initiative for the MSU Bands.   All participants in these meetings have been very positive about the idea and further meetings will be scheduled.  Though separate from the Alumni Band Association, it is assumed that the fund raising group would have a linkage with the Alumni Band Association so that the efforts of both groups can be coordinated.  Joe and Gordon will continue to keep the Board apprised of the development of this idea.

Dale Bartlett – MSU Alumni Touring Band Trip Report

Different options are being considered.  More information will be provided at a later date.
