Alumni Band Executive Board Meeting
Minutes
May 16, 2004

 

REMINDER:  The next Board meeting will be July 25, 2004.

Meeting was called to order at 2:05pm by Vice President Gerry Spry.

Present: John Madden, Kim Hopkins, Gerry Spry, Lynn Brown, Gordon Spink, Beryl Falcone, Henry Nelson,, Bill Sachs, Bob Rice, John Kostoff, Dale Bartlett

 

Secretary's Report - Lynn Brown

Minutes from the January 4, 2004 meeting were approved.

 

Treasurer’s Report - John Kostoff

For the period January 4, 2004 – May 16, 2004:

Total Expenses = $4,497.99
Total Deposits = $1,937.50
Ending Balance (checking account) = $5,243.72

Other funds:
Certificate of Deposit = $5,016.14

Total Cash on Hand = $10,259.86

Anticipated expenditures:

Bloomquist Scholarship (Yearly) = $500.00
R J Bullock Digitizing Project = $2,000.00

There was discussion regarding the cost of the April 2004 breakfast.  John Madden will check on food vendor rules.  Treasurer’s report was approved as presented.



 

Vice President’s Report – Gerry Spry

 

No report.

 

   President’s Report – Jim McCaffrey

Spring Reunion was fantastic!  Congratulations to all who organized this event, especially to John Madden who was extremely helpful that day. 

Date of the Fall Reunion is September 11, 2004.  Lynn Brown will contact “dignitaries” to speak at the Fall Reunion rehearsal.

The Williamston Roadhouse has been reserved for the 2nd Annual Friday Evening Dinner to be held on September 10, 2004.

 

Executive Secretary’s Report – Beryl Falcone

The Board will send a Thank You card to Leonard Sklar who is retiring from Wharton Center.

It was decided to use hanging nametags at the Fall Reunion.

 

Alumni Band Golf Outing Update – Dale Bartlett

The Board approved giving $100 to be used for prizes at the September 10, 2004 golf outing.

 

Alumni Band European Trip Update – Dale Bartlett

No update.

 

Past President’s Report – Bill Monroe

No report

 

Old Business

Lynn Brown will e-mail RJ Bullock to determine the status of the digitizing project.

Terry Person’s name will be submitted for Vice President and Jack Nelson’s name will be submitted for Member at Large.

 

New Business

It was approved that Beryl Falcone will be reimbursed $100 for paying Kim Hopkins to do “Beryl’s Beat”.  It was also decided to have Kim write Berly’s Beat” in the future.

The following motion was made by Bill Sachs and seconded by Gordon Spink:  The Alumni Band board believes in and is firmly committed to supporting on-going commissioning projects by the MSU University Bands.  $2,500 was pledged for 2004 at the January 2004 meeting.  An additional line will be added in the registration form for each reunion (Fall/Marching Band and Spring/Concert Band) to donate to this project.  Additionally, a minimum of $500 per calendar year will be added to this fund by the Alumni Band Board.

Lynn Brown brought a Thinking of You card for Wes Broadnax and each person at the meeting signed it.  Lynn will put it in Wes’ mailbox in the Music Building.

 

Director’s Report – John Madden

Regarding the Music Building Project:  John indicated that opportunities will arise to contribute to “naming” a room, etc.

New uniforms have been ordered for the Marching Band.

 

The next board meeting is scheduled for July 25, 2004 at 2:00 pm at Buddies in Okemos.
