Director's Report - John Madden
John Maden reported that the exact game time for the Fall Reunion is stilll not known. However, we wil proceed with our published starting time (8:00 am) and adjust our schedule based upon the actual game starting time. They are expecting a "flyover" of Air Force jets durin g the pregame. Also, the SMB's large American flag will be unfurled on the field during the halftime performance.
Gary Baron reported that there were currently 248 members signed up for the Fall Reunion with 236 planning to march.
John Whitwell introduced Wes Broadnax, recently appointed Assistant Director of Bands, to the Board. John also shared information about upcoming Fall semester band concerts - including the December 2, 2001 concert that will feature an appearance of Karl Husa who will be celebrating his 80th birthday. In addition, the concert will feature a performance of Husa's Concerto for Wind Ensemble - in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Concerto that was commissioned for the opening of MSU's Wharton Center.

Old Business
Gary Baron questioned the idea of the Associate Member category of membership in the Association. Though the category exists, the Board has never voted on anyone for such membership. There currently are 10 Associate Members who were grandfathered in when the category was created. The Board felt that the Associate Member category should be retained and used as a way to welcome for membership those with a strong interest in the Association (as described in the Bylaws). However, Board members must remember that anyone requesting such membership must have their name brought to the Board for approval.
Joe Levine (in Gordon Spink's absence) shared information about the current status of the Association's official relationship to the MSU Alumni Association. The MSU Alumni Association is most interested in officially recognizing such a relationship. The current plan is to make available an "affiliate" relationship whereby a member of the MSU Alumni Association could elect to also affiliate with the Alumni Band Association. A one year subscription to the MSU Alumni Band Newsletter would be provided for such affiliate members with the hope that they might decide to join our Association. A letter of agreement will soon be issued by the MSU Alumni Association that defines the relationship.
Joe Levine reported that the Nominating Committee (Gordon, Beryl & Joe) will be considering the identification of At Large members of the Board who could chair ad hoc committees in the future and thereby expand participation in the Board.
New Business
John Whitwell described a project he hopes to soon see developed and would encourage the Alumni Band Association to become activiely involved - a history of the MSU Bands. Dale Bartlett agreed to consider coordinating such a project. John went on to say that MSU is long overdue in the creation of such a work.
The idea of a Friday evening social event, prior to the Fall Reunion was again discussed. It's not known if it willl occur due to the uncertainties assocaited with rescheduling the event.
Dale reported that a total of 7 members showed up for the Annual Golf Event which was rather remarkable due to the problems associated with rescheduling and the fact that it was raining!
Meeting adjourned - 3:50 pm
