Minutes
October 2, 2005

 

REMINDER:  The next Board meeting will be January 8, 2006.

Meeting was called to order at 2:07pm by President Gerry Spry.

Present: John Madden, Gerry Spry, Terry Person, Joe Levine, Jack Nelson, Beryl Falcone, John Kostoff, Dale Bartlett, Gordon Spink, Gary Baron, Bill Sachs, Bob Rice, Wes Broadnax, Lynn Brown

Secretary's Report - Lynn Brown

Minutes from the May 22, 2005 meeting were approved.  Minutes from the July 23, 2005 meeting were approved as presented.

Treasurer’s Report - John Kostoff

For the period July 24, 2005 – October 2, 2005:

Total Expenses = $3,640.15
Total Deposits = $17,304.00
Ending Balance (checking account) = $16,435.25
            (Commission Portion)              $1,618.00        

            (Regular Portion)                        $14,817.25

Other funds:
Certificate of Deposit (As of 07/28/05) = $5,115.03

Total Cash on Hand = $21,550.28

Anticipated expenditures:

Bloomquist Scholarship (Yearly) = $500.00
Commission Project = $2,500.00

            No report.

 President’s Report – Gerry Spry

                        No report.

 Band Director’s Report

John Madden will address the issue of where the Alumni Band sits during the game in a future issue of the Encore.

 

Band Liaison Report – Joe Levine

The board approved initiating a new $500 annual scholarship.  It will be similar in concept to the Ken Bloomquist scholarship (also $500) that we currently award each year.  In addition, a plaque will be created to go in the Music Building that briefly describes the naming of the scholarship, the focus of the scholarship, identifies the Alumni Band Association as the sponsor and has places for each year’s winner to be added.  The scholarship will be announced at the Spring Reunion Concert.  An informal reception will be held immediately after the concert in recognition of the scholarship.  In addition, a similar plaque will be created for the Bloomquist scholarship and the names of previous winners will be added to the plaque.

Old Business

Fall Reunion Report – Joe Levine

The Friday evening dinner was a success. 

There was discussion regarding having a leader/director conduct the Alumni Band at Adams Field after the fall games.

           

RJ Bullock Project - Gary Baron

No report.

 

MSU Alumni Band Trip Report – Dale Bartlett

            The 2007 trip flyer was distributed.

 

MSU Alumni Band Golf Outing Report – Dale Bartlett

There were 46 golfers at this year’s outing.  Lynn Brown will be taking over as Chair of the outing.

 

                        UGLI Report

The association now has all the merchandise from UGLI.  It was provided on Alumni Band Day.  We are now using Custom Embroidery.

 

Jack Nelson – Sesquicentennial Parade

            The band needs brass players for the October 8 parade.

 

 

Basketball Bands

            Gary Baron, Henry Nelson and Jack Nelson will be responsible for setting up basketball bands.  The board decided that only dues paying members may play in the basketball band and a $5 suggested donation will go to the Alumni Band Scholarship Fund.

 New Business

                        Developing criteria for Alumni Band Performance Requests

The board determined that we are already participating as much as we desire.  All other requests will be addressed by the board.

 

Developing criteria for Alumni Recognition

All requests will be dealt with by the board on an individual basis.         

           

                        Presentation of the Ken Bloomquist Scholarship

We did not provide a scholarship at the Fall 2005 Alumni Band Day.  Gerry Spry will contact the band directors to determine the recipient.  The name of the recipient will be announced at the Spring 2006 Reunion Concert.

 

ACE Sprit – Christy Stehouwer

            She will not be a vendor.

 

Spring 2006 Reunion Concert

            The board selected Bob Rice as the Alumni Conductor.

 

 

 

Chicago Reception in December

The board approved underwriting one-third of the reception, up to $750.

 

All Else

            The board will be looking into having a company deal with mass mailings.

                       

 

The next board meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Buddies in Okemos.
